Minecraft Creator Lists Beverly Hills Mansion for $70 Million, the Same Price He Paid in 2014
By Real Estate Wire Staff, . Real Estate Wire.
Markus "Notch" Persson, the creator of Minecraft, has put his Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $70 million, matching exactly what he paid for it in 2014, according to Realtor.com News and The Real Deal.
The property sits at 1181 N Hillcrest Road in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood, a stretch also known as Billionaires Row. Persson bought it in 2014 from spec developer Bruce Makowsky. The Real Deal reported that he reportedly outbid Jay-Z for it at the time.
What the property includes
The estate spans roughly 22,300 square feet on about one acre and holds eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms. Realtor.com News described the standout feature as a private nightclub fitted with a DJ booth, dance floor, bar, custom lighting, and a club-grade sound system. A professional recording studio with a separate drum room, a movie theater, an elevator, a pool overlooking the Los Angeles basin, a 2,500-bottle wine cellar, an on-site security office, and staff quarters round out the amenities.
Realtor.com News noted that Persson elevated the estate into what the listing calls "a true entertainment destination," yet is now looking to break even on his original investment. The Real Deal reported that his reason for selling is straightforward: he has not been spending much time in Los Angeles. Christie's International Real Estate Southern California holds the listing, according to The Real Deal.
What a flat price after more than a decade actually means
Asking the same dollar amount in 2026 that was paid in 2014 is not the same as breaking even in real terms. A seller who recovers only the nominal purchase price has absorbed a loss in purchasing power over that period, and the sources note that Persson made multimillion-dollar improvements to the property, including the recording studio and nightclub buildout, which are not recouped at the asking price.
The listing agent was identified by The Real Deal as Kirman, though the report does not give a first name in the excerpt available.
